Go to your local library and request a book "100 ways to take better photograps" by Michael Busselle. That is a good start.

Well if you are to buy any books, I would totally recommend Scott Kelby's two volumed The Digital Photography Book. Another is Joe McNallly's The Moment it Clicks. Seriously, these books helped me a lot.
